Macau receives nearly 100 tour groups per day, representing a recovery of about 30 to 40 percent of 2019 levels, says the president of the Macau Tourism Industry Association.

A new multi-entry visa for Chinese nationals on package tours is set to be implemented for travel between Macau and neighboring Hengqin on May 6th, allowing more fluid tourism passage between the regions.

A total of 349,000 tourists came to Macau across all forms of package tours in the first six months of the year, with the market reactivating following the relaxation of COVID-19 countermeasures. 

China’s National Immigration Administration announced on Thursday that it's going to ease restrictions on package tour visa applications to Macau, with the new policy to come into effect next Monday, May 15th.

President of the Macau Hoteliers and Innkeepers Association, Cheung Kin Chung, calls for the industry to look more to the Greater Bay Area as it seeks more high-spending tourists. Cheung notes that multi-destination packages and leveraging regional hotel room inventory could help drive Macau's success.

Package tours have yet to fully return to Macau, despite the announcement that both individual e-visas and tour group visas would be available for travelers from mainland China to the SAR on November 1st.
