Digiplus files for South Africa online gambling licenses

DigiPlus Interactive Corp., the Philippines’ leading online gambling and digital entertainment provider, has formally filed for three licenses with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) in South Africa, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy.

In a filing to the Philippines Stock Exchange on September 24th, DigiPlus confirmed applications for a National Manufacturer License, Bookmaker License, and Bookmaker Premises License. The company also plans to secure key employee licenses to ensure operational leadership. The WCGRB was described as the preferred jurisdiction for international operators due to its transparent regulatory processes and readiness for digital gambling oversight.

“The filing of our online gaming license in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey, as we bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming, and player protection, together with our strength in localizing games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies,” said Chairman Eusebio Tanco in the statement.

DigiPlus first announced plans to enter South Africa in July, noting the country’s position as the largest regulated online gambling market in Africa and a gateway to the continent’s broader digital economy. The licensing process is expected to take around six months, during which the company and its ultimate beneficial owners will undergo probity checks, followed by board review and final platform testing.

The South Africa move comes just days after DigiPlus launched its first international brand in Brazil. On September 22nd, the company debuted its GamePlus platform under a federal license secured earlier this year. Operated through subsidiary DigiPlus Brazil Interactive Ltda., the license authorizes land-based and online sports betting, electronic games, live studios, and other fixed-odds betting activities in the country.

DigiPlus, which operates BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone in the Philippines, is positioning itself for continued growth despite uncertainty in the domestic regulatory environment for online gaming. Market speculation has also linked the company as a potential buyer of City of Dreams Manila, currently operated by Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
