The Macau government raked in gaming tax totaling MOP5.7 billion ($2.6 billion) in the first five months this year, according to details published by the SAR’s Financial Services Bureau.

Gaming tax collected by Macau authorities in 2022 amounted to just 55.9 percent of the amount authorities had estimated would be received, with the figure topping out at MOP19.11 billion ($2.39 billion).

Data released by the Macau Financial Services Bureau for the month of July 2022 reflected optimism with month-on-month improvements in revenue collected by the six gaming concessionaires.

The Macau government collected MOP8.73 billion ($1.1 billion) in direct gaming taxes in the first quarter, down 4.7 percent from the same period last year, according to figures from the Financial Services Bureau. 

The amount of tax collected by the government from the gaming concessionaires in the first two months of the year was down 9.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, according to figures from the Financial Services Bureau.

The Macau government has raked in MOP 31.3 billion (US$3.9 billion) in taxes from gaming revenue from January to November, making up only 62.5 percent of its full-year forecast.
