Macau's tourism industry labor shortage was basically eased in May due to continuously adding non-resident workers, according to observation from the president of the Macau Tourism Industry Association.

After seeing the local staffing shortage worsen, Raffles Hotel at Galaxy Macau will not be ready for its planned opening date before the Labor Day Golden Week. 

The ongoing labor shortage is one of the major headwinds for Macau’s international flight resumption, confirms Macau’s Chief Executive.

The labor shortage in Macau has been a frequently discussed topic, as Macau's tourism bureau said in February that up to 3,000 hotel rooms were out of use and the problem likely remains unresolved. An industry insider notes that skilled workers who left Macau during the pandemic "probably will not come back".

The return of visitors to Macau has been so sudden that the sector is hard-pressed to keep up.

The news is good for casinos targeting mass players in the future, as whilst Moody’s analysts expect Melco’s revenue to only see full recovery in 2023, it’s margins will be far higher due to a higher proportion of mass players.
