Hong Kong may continue to serve as one of Macau’s leading source markets, despite undergoing continuous reshaping of its consumer market, with minimal impacts on GGR.

Macau’s 2024 gross gaming revenue (GGR) is likely to be up 34 percent from 2023, according to the brokerage CLSA, which says the forecast is 3.5 percent higher than its prior estimates after a positive Chinese New Year.

The Bank of East Asia (BEA) anticipates that the contribution to gross gaming revenue (GGR) per tourist in Macau may increase by 6% this year.

Macau's November results are lagging behind the ever-popular Golden Week month of October, but gross gaming revenue still reached $348 million in the first five days. Analysts at Citigroup note that November is typically the slow month in the quarter, estimating around $2 billion in GGR during the month.

Analysts at ratings agency Moody’s are expecting Macau’s gross gaming revenue this year to rise to just 45 percent of 2019 levels ‘because of the extent of deterioration during the pandemic, and strict regulations on junket operations that will constrain the VIP segment’.

Zeng Zhonglu, a gaming scholar has estimated that Macau’s gross gaming revenues could reach up to 70 percent of pre-pandemic levels in 2023, at MOP175.47 billion ($21.84 billion) as the territory aims to rebound from nearly three years of lackluster gaming results under COVID restrictions.
