Authorities in Nepal have been struggling to keep up with illegal gambling syndicates taking bets on Euro 2020, which ended this Sunday.

On Wednesday, a football betting network, run by five men, was broken up by the Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range.

Two days earlier, the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested eight individuals from different parts of Kathmandu for organizing illegal online betting over the tournament.

Every year, Nepal police bust a number of betting rackets, but authorities said this has become more difficult as betting has moved online, making activities difficult to monitor.

Section 125 of the National Penal (Code) Act, 2017 prohibits gambling and betting in Nepal.
