Pragmatic Play expands Greek mythology portfolio with Waves of Poseidon

Pragmatic Play, a leading content supplier to the iGaming industry, has unveiled Waves of Poseidon, taking players on an oceanic adventure with the god of the sea.

Poseidon guards the reels in this 6×5 pays-anywhere slot, where consecutive tumbles can build a locked multiplier reel up to 20x. When a bonus symbol hits, it unlocks the reel and can randomly boost the value of all multipliers on the reel by up to 50x.

Landing 4-6 scatters triggers the bonus game with 10-20 free spins. The multiplier reel remains unlocked throughout the feature, and every bonus symbol is guaranteed to hit with a multiplier of up to 50x. Each scatter that lands in the bonus game awards one additional free spin.

Six scatters in the base game award entry to Super Free Spins, during which the multiplier reel does not reset between spins, boosting win potential. In select markets, players can buy entry to either bonus game.

Waves of Poseidon is the latest addition to Pragmatic Play’s popular Greek mythology-themed slots portfolio, following recent hits Gates of Olympus Super Scatter and Gates of Hades

Irina Cornides, Chief Operating Officer at Pragmatic Play, said: “With Zeus and Hades grabbing all the attention of late, Waves of Poseidon adds a new dimension to our Greek Gods series, introducing fresh gameplay, a progressive multiplier reel, and wins of up to 5,000x.”

Jeju Dream Tower casino revenue soars 42.5% in 1H25

Jeju Dream Tower reported a significant year-on-year increase in casino revenue for the first half of 2025, despite a month-on-month decline in both its casino and hotel divisions in June.

According to provisional figures released by the company’s IR team on July 1st, Jeju Dream Tower’s casino revenue for June reached KRW35.8 billion ($26.2 million), down 13.4 percent from KRW41.4 billion ($29.9 million) in May, but up 88.1 percent from KRW19.0 billion ($13.8 million) in June 2024.

Table games brought in KRW34.4 billion ($25.1 million) in June, a 12.8 percent decline from the previous month, yet a 92.6 percent surge year-on-year. Revenue from machine games dropped 26.8 percent from May to KRW1.44 billion ($1.1 million), but still marked a 20.3 percent increase from a year earlier.

Hotel revenue for June came in at KRW6.83 billion ($4.9 million), representing a 13.8 percent decrease from KRW7.92 billion ($5.7 million) in May, and a 13.2 percent decline from KRW7.87 billion ($5.7 million) in June 2024 — reflecting ongoing weakness in the non-gaming sector.

For the first half of 2025 (January to June), cumulative casino revenue totaled KRW194.6 billion ($140.4 million), a 42.5 percent increase over the same period in 2024. This was driven by robust growth in table game revenue, which climbed 43.6 percent to KRW184.7 billion ($132.8 million), while machine game revenue rose 24.2 percent year-on-year to KRW9.91 billion ($7.1 million).

In contrast, cumulative hotel revenue fell 9.8 percent year-on-year to KRW36.0 billion ($25.9 million), compared to KRW39.9 billion ($28.8 million) in the first half of 2024.

Customer activity at the tables also rose notably. The table drop — the amount customers spent to buy chips — totaled KRW219.2 billion ($157.7 million) in June, up 12.9 percent from May and 89.6 percent higher than a year earlier. The cumulative table drop for January to June reached KRW1.02 trillion ($738.5 million), representing a 45.7 percent jump compared to the first half of 2024.

The reported casino revenue excludes agent commissions and may differ from figures released by the Korea Casino Association.

As of the end of 2024, casino operations accounted for 62.5 percent of Jeju Dream Tower’s total revenue, while the hotel segment contributed 18.2 percent.

Thai opposition groups demand government withdraw casino bill entirely

Thailand’s civic groups and the opposition People’s Party have urged the government to withdraw two controversial bills aimed at legalizing casino-entertainment complexes and amending gambling laws to allow online betting, as political instability continues to grip the country.

According to the Bangkok Post, People’s Party MP and spokesman Parit Wacharasindhu noted that the opposition maintains that if the government genuinely considered concerns raised by opposition parties and segments of the public, it should withdraw the bill entirely.

He criticized the government for prioritizing the casino-entertainment complex bill while failing to address pressing national concerns. He suggested that pushing the bill could serve as a test of the government’s fragile parliamentary support.

The protest, led by Thanakorn Khomkrit, secretary-general of the Stop Gambling Foundation, took place outside Government House on Wednesday. Demonstrators submitted a petition to suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who also leads the ruling Pheu Thai Party. The petition was received by Sompas Nilphan, an adviser to the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thailand

The Constitutional Court suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Tuesday, citing her dishonesty and violation of constitutional ethics.

The suspension poses challenges for Thailand’s gaming sector, as Paetongtarn and the Pheu Thai Party had been driving forces behind efforts to legalize and regulate the industry. With her suspension, progress on the gaming framework is expected to stall further, with discussions now tentatively delayed until August, deepening uncertainty over regulatory reforms.

Thanakorn argued that the bills could fuel social division and distract from more pressing issues including economic challenges, environmental crises, and political instability. He suggested that withdrawing the measures would help restore public confidence and prevent long-term social consequences.

The opposition leader called for the Pheu Thai Party to include these policies in their election platform if they believed them to be truly important, allowing the public to decide through democratic processes.

Public health advocate Vasin Pipattanachat raised concerns about the management structure of proposed entertainment complexes, noting the absence of mechanisms for social accountability or provisions to mitigate potential harm to communities. He questioned how the executive and office would operate without proper oversight.

Community leader Naiyana Yonjorhor expressed fears that legalized gambling would worsen household debt and domestic violence, particularly affecting low-income communities. She emphasized that gambling addiction typically affects household heads, causing suffering for entire families.

BETBY expands chess betting markets ahead of Esports World Cup debut

Marking a new chapter for chess within the iGaming space, BETBY’s upgraded betting content portfolio goes far beyond traditional markets like outright winner or total moves.

Bettors can now engage with detailed, event-specific outcomes including the first move made, the first piece captured, number of checks, castlings, and whether a game will feature a pawn promotion, an en passant, or end in stalemate. Several markets also focus on the timing of critical moments, such as whether a checkmate will occur before a certain move, offering more dynamic, real-time decision-making for players.

This launch follows six months of dedicated product development across BETBY’s chess vertical and reflects the company’s long-term vision for the game as a core part of its sportsbook strategy. With chess now officially included in the Esports World Cup, the timing marks a natural convergence of two verticals where BETBY continues to strengthen its position: esports and traditional chess.

As part of this expansion, BETBY is also introducing another exclusive: live betting on the Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC), a prestigious AI-based tournament. While the event follows a defined schedule, it opens up a new betting experience through intense matchups between powerful engines, enriching the overall chess offering.

Currently, BETBY offers pre-match coverage for around 20 chess tournaments per month, totaling approximately 400 matches. The addition of these expanded markets marks a strategic leap forward in delivering a modern, high-engagement chess product to sportsbook partners and players.

“Chess has always been a passion of ours, and today we’re proud to announce the launch of a truly comprehensive chess offering,” said Kirill Nekrasov, Head of Sportsbook Product at BETBY. “By expanding our market depth and introducing innovative tournaments, including both traditional and AI-driven formats, we’re giving our partners and players a completely new way to engage with the game. Our vision is ambitious: we want chess and betting to become synonymous, to the point where no modern sportsbook feels complete without chess markets. We’ve already done this with Betby.Games and esports, now it’s time to do the same with chess.”

Magnus Carlsen, will represent Team Liquid at the Esports World Cup

BETBY’s long-term global brand ambassador, five-time world chess champion Magnus Carlsen, will represent Team Liquid at the Esports World Cup. His participation in the tournament, which begins on July 7th, reinforces chess’s growing presence in global esports and its potential as a premium betting vertical.

South Korea’s GKL casino sales drop 6% year-on-year in June

Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), the South Korean operator of foreigner-only casinos, reported a 6 percent year-on-year decline in casino sales for June, falling to KRW37.81 billion ($27.4 million), according to a filing with the Korea Exchange on Thursday.

Despite the annual decrease, sales rose 13.6 percent from May. The drop in year-on-year revenue was largely attributed to weaker performance in table games. Sales from table games in June totaled KRW31.60 billion ($22.9 million), marking a 7.7 percent decrease from the same period last year. However, this represented a 16.6 percent improvement compared to the previous month.

Machine game revenue partially offset the decline in table game sales, rising 15.3 percent year-on-year to KRW3.21 billion ($2.3 million). On a month-on-month basis, however, machine sales saw a 9 percent dip.

Despite the decline in June, GKL posted positive results for the first half of 2025. Cumulative casino sales during the January–June period reached KRW209.86 billion ($152.1 million), up 9 percent compared to KRW192.57 billion ($139.6 million) recorded in the first half of 2024.

Revenue from table games in the first six months rose 9.2 percent year-on-year to KRW191.41 billion ($138.7 million), while machine game sales increased by 6.8 percent to KRW18.45 billion ($13.4 million).

GKL operates three foreigner-only casinos in South Korea under the Seven Luck brand—two in Seoul and one in Busan. The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
