International Game Technology (IGT) has announced that its global lottery business has begun doing business as Brightstar Lottery.
The shift comes ahead of the expected sale of IGT’s Gaming and Digital business to a holding company managed by funds under Apollo Global Management, as soon as July 1st.
IGT notes that the name shift means ‘Brightstar will be a premier pure-play lottery business designed to elevate lotteries and inspire players.’
It furthers that ‘The new Brightstar brand invokes the Company’s forward-thinking global leadership in the lottery industry, acting as a guiding light and source of inspiration and innovation for lottery customers and players.’
Brightstar serves nearly 90 lottery customers and players across six continents, providing technology to 26 of the 47 lottery jurisdictions in the United States and seven of the world’s 10 largest lotteries.

Speaking of the name shift, Marco Sala, Executive Chair of Brightstar’s Board noted “Brightstar will be well-positioned to focus on driving innovation and growing the potential of the lottery business responsibly for the entertainment of players, the success of our customers, and the support of the good causes they fund in their communities”.
While the group has already started using the Brightstar name, the legal name of the company will remain International Game Technology PLC until the formal name change is registered with the UK Companies House after the closing of the sale of IGT Gaming. After the transaction, the company’s ordinary shares will continue to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the new ticker symbol BRSL – this is expected to occur ‘on or about July 2, 2025’.
