China keeps up cross border gambling campaign

China’s efforts to stamp out cross border gambling are showing no signs of abating, with the Chinese Minister of Public Security, Zhao Kezhi, saying that the strictest measures are needed to eradicate the practice.

Authorities must “resolutely curb cross-border gambling chaos” by paying more attention to both the symptoms and the root causes of cross-border gambling and via inter-departmental prevention efforts, he was cited as saying.

China sees cross border gambling a matter for national security due to the high levels of capital outflow. In August last year, it announced it had a black list of countries which are targeting its nationals for gambling purposes. Beijing said it has extended that list, but hasn’t published it.
