Queensland pubs and clubs EGM revenue rises 13.3% in August, sets new record

Queensland’s pubs and clubs gaming sector has achieved impressive results, with the latest figures revealing a 3.8 percent increase in gross revenues compared to last month and a 13.3 percent rise from August 2023. This marks the second consecutive record month for Queensland pubs and clubs.

The data from Wohlsen Consulting highlights significant growth in Brisbane’s Inner City SA4, where gross revenue surged by 12.2 percent month-over-month and 20.2 percent year-over-year.

This growth is particularly significant given the recent competition from the newly opened Queen’s Wharf Casino, which began operations on the evening of August 29th, effectively offering just 2.5 days of trading in the month.

Overall, the Brisbane Local Government Area (LGA) also showed strong performance, with gross revenue climbing by 13.6 percent year-over-year and a 5.9 percent improvement from the previous month. The Brisbane Exhibition (Ekka) did not dampen demand, and the city’s festive events, including the River Fire Festival and Brisbane Festival, may have contributed to the positive trend.

Pubs and clubs led the way this month, gaining back 0.7 percent of market share.

Looking ahead, Wohlsen Consulting notes that September’s results will provide a clearer picture of how the Queen’s Wharf Casino‘s full-month impact will influence the Queensland pub and club sectors.
