SA Gaming secures BMM certification for games in South Africa

SA Gaming has secured certification for its games in South Africa from BMM Testlabs, enabling the company to introduce its products into the country’s regulated gaming market.

The certification, announced on March 12th, confirms that SA Gaming’s games have been tested and approved by BMM Testlabs, an independent gaming testing laboratory with more than 40 years of experience in the industry. BMM evaluates gaming systems and products to ensure they comply with regulatory and technical standards required by licensed markets.

SA Gaming said the certification supports its efforts to expand its presence in South Africa’s iGaming sector. The company previously obtained a National Supplier License from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), allowing it to supply gaming products and services in the jurisdiction.

“With our games certified by BMM, and the WCGRB National Supplier License we obtained last year, SA Gaming is now determined to bring top-notch entertainment and tailored iGaming solutions into the South African market,” the company said in a statement.

SA Gaming is a live game solution provider with more than 15 years of experience in the online gaming industry. Its portfolio includes live dealer titles such as baccarat, roulette and blackjack delivered through its technology platform.

The company also holds regulatory approvals in several jurisdictions, including licenses from Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and a B2B license from the Curacao Gaming Control Board.

Vietnam tourism growth deceleration in 2M26 in line with expectations: economist

0

Vietnam’s economy has started this year ‘on an unexpected trajectory’, according to the Chief Economist at VinaCapital, despite a predicted ‘deceleration in tourism arrival growth’.

According to the group’s Chief Economist Michael Kokalari, the tourism growth slowdown ‘is playing out in line with our expectations’, as tourism surged in 2025, ‘especially from China’.

In the first two months of the year, the economist notes that arrival growth has decelerated ‘from 21 percent to 18 percent’.

Vietnam in 2025 saw its best international tourism year, welcoming nearly 21.17 million visitors, up by 20.4 percent yearly, despite missing its target of 23-25 million foreign visitors.

China was the primary source market, contributing 5.28 million visitors, a yearly rise of 41.3 percent and amounting to roughly 91 percent of the figure registered in 2019.

South Korean visitation to the country also boomed in 2025, reaching 4.33 million. And that wave is continuing: South Korean visitor numbers in January and February totaled 971,000, up by about 10 percent yearly, outpacing Chinese arrivals which totaled 923,000.

In the first two months of the year, Vietnam welcomed 4.68 million foreign visitors, an 18.1 percent yearly uptick. February alone saw 2.2 million international visitors, the third consecutive month of over 2 million foreign visits.

But the country could be in for a shock, as the surge in oil prices due to the Middle East conflict is expected to not only increase travel prices, but also boost inflation from 3.4 percent yearly growth in February ‘to over 5 percent in March and April’, notes Koklari.

The economist opines that there are currently ‘limited options to boost growth’, with the only realistic way to improve GDP figures ‘by taking aggressive measures to boost consumption and/or the real estate market’.

The government is targeting 10 percent GDP growth in 2026, with a 9 percent growth target for the first quarter. The VinaCapital economist predicts this will be closer to 6.5 percent in 1Q26, noting how consumption makes up over 60 percent of GDP and manufacturing takes up 25 percent.

The government already ‘took actions to boost consumer sentiment and spending’ last year, including a personal income tax break and a slight VAT reduction, but Kokalari argues that ‘more aggressive measures’ will be needed.

Kangwon Land employee dies after collapsing inside casino workplace

A worker at South Korea’s Kangwon Land casino has died after collapsing while on duty inside the casino’s operating area, according to a regulatory disclosure filed by the company.

The incident occurred on March 11th, inside the casino workplace at Kangwon Land. According to the disclosure, the employee collapsed while working and was transported to a hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The company reported one fatality and no additional injuries related to the incident.

Kangwon Land said the case was reported to South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor on the same day as the accident. Authorities are expected to conduct an on-site investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding the collapse have not yet been disclosed.

Kangwon Land operates the Kangwon Land Casino & Resort in the remote mining region of Gangwon Province. The property is notable for being the only casino in South Korea where local residents are legally permitted to gamble, while all other casinos in the country are restricted to foreign visitors.

The resort is operated by Kangwon Land Inc., a company majority-owned by the South Korean government, and is considered a key economic driver in the region.

Cambodia proposes anti-scam law with 30-year jail terms, local leader liability

0

More details have emerged about Cambodia’s proposed anti-telecom fraud law. According to a recent interview with Chhay Sinarith, a senior minister and secretary-general of the government’s anti-cyberscam commission, the draft legislation could impose prison sentences of up to 30 years and fines of up to $500,000, while also allowing authorities to hold provincial leaders accountable if such crimes persist.

The draft Anti-Telecom Fraud Law is expected to be reviewed by the Cambodian cabinet on March 13th. The legislation would establish the country’s first comprehensive legal framework specifically targeting telecom and online fraud.

Speaking to The Cambodia China Times, Chhay Sinarith said the law aims to impose strict penalties on individuals and organizations involved in fraud activities, including those who provide premises, protection, or logistical support to scam operations.

Under the proposed legislation, in addition to tougher prison sentences and heavy fines, property owners who rent premises to scam syndicates or individuals involved in recruiting workers for fraud operations would also face legal liability. The draft law specifies that property owners cannot avoid responsibility by claiming they were unaware of the activities taking place.

The legislation also targets public officials found to be shielding scam networks. Chhay Sinarith acknowledged that investigations had uncovered cases in which certain officials provided protection to fraud groups.

“Criminal groups often first look for a protector before securing locations, personnel, and financial channels,” he said, adding that those providing such protection would face criminal prosecution.

The government has also set a deadline of the end of April to eliminate telecom fraud operations nationwide. After that date, authorities will evaluate enforcement outcomes across provinces and hold local leaders accountable if scam activities are still found.

Chhay Sinarith said disciplinary measures could include administrative penalties or criminal liability for provincial authorities and law enforcement officials who fail to act or are found to have tolerated such crimes.

Alongside legislative measures, the government has strengthened enforcement efforts. Since June last year, authorities have dismantled 250 scam compounds nationwide, including 91 located within casinos.

A total of 679 suspects have been charged, while 8,989 individuals have been deported to their home countries, including nearly 6,000 sent back to China. Cambodia has also expanded international cooperation in combating telecom fraud, with China identified as a key partner in intelligence sharing and investigations.

Lotte Tour Development, operator of the Jeju Dream Tower foreigner-only casino resort, has approved a cash dividend plan totaling KRW110.94 billion ($74.9 million), according to a regulatory filing released on March 12th.

The decision was made by the board of the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Lotte Entertainment Co., which approved the dividend distribution based on earnings generated in 2025.

The proposal will be submitted for approval at the subsidiary’s annual general meeting scheduled for March 25th, with payment expected the following day if approved.

Under the plan, the dividend will amount to KRW27,735 ($18.72) per share. The dividend record date has been set as December 31st, 2025, with retained earnings designated as the funding source for the payout.

The dividend payment follows strong operational performance at the company’s integrated resort in Jeju. South Korea’s Jeju Dream Tower recorded a sharp rise in casino sales in 2025, with full-year revenue for the January–December period reaching KRW476.6 billion ($321.7 million), a 61.8 percent year-on-year increase.

Opened in December 2020, Jeju Dream Tower is Jeju Island’s tallest building and one of South Korea’s largest integrated resorts. The property includes the Grand Hyatt Jeju hotel, casino, and a range of dining, retail, and entertainment facilities.

Daily Asia Gaming eBrief: Strong Korean demand for Vietnam gaming to continue

0
Good morning, Vietnam. That’s what Korean punters are saying as they increasingly see the country as a stable and attractive destination to test their luck. While visitors flood integrated resorts’ casinos, executives living in the country boost e-gaming clubs – prompting operators to focus on an increasingly segmented and digital market. Meanwhile, in Australia, the financial watchdog is urging operators to up their anti-money laundering game to eliminate persistent weaknesses, with new regulations coming this month. And in the UAE, construction has resumed on Wynn Al Marjan Island, in a sign of normality amongst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The 2026 Sands China Macao International 10K — jointly organised by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Sands China Ltd., and the General Association of Athletics of Macau — kicks off this Sunday, March 15.

Sands China will hold a series of community initiatives to strengthen community cohesion. With the participation of 10,000 runners, including athletes from NGOs in the Greater Bay Area, this highly anticipated sporting event embodies and extends the Sands Cares spirit of community service to more regions – helping build a diverse and inclusive community.

Sands China to host the 2026 Macao International 10K

Since the race’s debut in 2021, Sands China has actively brought together diverse stakeholders, including team members, SMEs on Rua das Estalagens, community volunteers, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and members of local NGOs. Drawing 10,000 participants each year, the company has leveraged the popularity of this annual sporting mega event to foster inclusion, simulate the neighbourhood economy, and spread care throughout the community.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “Sands China has always been deeply committed to our local community. With this in mind, we have consistently grown the 10K Run into an impactful way to connect and serve the community through our Sands Cares spirit. This year, we extended our outreach to include members of NGOs from Greater Bay Area cities, inviting them to participate in the race for the first time. Alongside launching inclusive initiatives, we are encouraging 10,000 runners to connect with local neighbourhoods by supporting SME businesses – bringing greater care to the city beyond the competition.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to NGOs across the regions, local SMEs, Sands China team members, and Sands Cares Ambassadors for their strong support. Together, we have amplified the impact of this sporting event, from promoting community inclusion to supporting SMEs on Rua das Estalagens – demonstrating the powerful unifying role of sports. Looking ahead, we will remain steadfast in leveraging the 10K Run as a meaningful bridge to advance Macao’s diversified development and spread care throughout the community.”

In this year’s event, Sands China has further expanded the power of inclusion through a series of initiatives, including:

Sands 10K FUNkiest Costume Lab

On March 7, Sands China organised the Sands 10K FUNkiest Costume Lab, bringing together Sands Cares Ambassadors and members of the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) to design 10 costumes for MSO members participating in the Fun Run. Guided by a local fashion designer, participants incorporated elements of Macao’s iconic architecture and Chinese artistic symbols into their pieces. Through their dazzling costumes, they brought the theme of “East Meets West Run” to life – reflecting the city’s diversity and spirit of cultural inclusion.

Joyful Run with Sands Cares

With the support of the “Sands Cares x SEN Holistic Development Support Programme,” the “Joyful Run with Sands Cares” event kicked off March 7. Accompanied by Sands Cares Ambassadors, a total of 50 young runners from the programme’s running club under the Bosco Youth Service Network participated in a pre-race training session along The Venetian Macao’s outdoor lagoon. Iao Kuan U, Macao long-distance champion and master coach, was invited to give professional guidance and insights for long-distance running, helping runners prepare for the upcoming race.

Launched in 2026 and funded by Sands China, the new “Sands Cares x SEN Holistic Development Support Programme” under the Bosco Youth Service Network aims to provide comprehensive support for local youth with special educational needs (SEN). The programme is built on three core pillars: pre-employment training, workplace support, and sports training. As the core of the sports training pillar, the programme’s running club enables youth with SEN to engage in regular running training, fostering their personal development – both physically and mentally – alongside enhancing occupational skills.

First-time participation of Greater Bay Area NGOs expands spectrum of inclusion

To further expand the event’s community connections, Sands China has invited NGOs from the Greater Bay Area, including the Guangzhou Xinyou Mental Disorder Service Association and Special Olympics Hong Kong to participate alongside local community partners such as the Bosco Youth Service Network, Macau Special Olympics, and Holy House of Mercy’s Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind – promoting mutual care and inclusion in the community.

A total of 550 participants – including Sands China management, team members, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and members of NGOs from the three regions – will join 10,000 runners in the 10K race and Fun Run. Their participation helps establish a cross-regional, cross-sector sporting event that promotes the inclusive concept that “sports know no boundaries.”

Stimulating the neighbourhood economy through SME support

Sands China aims to utilise the synergistic effects of sporting mega events as momentum for advancing cultural, tourism, and sports integration. Following the success of last year’s 10K, the company will offer exclusive promotions to all participating runners, bringing the excitement of sports toward businesses in the Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens.

Sands China has consistently introduced a series of events encompassing culture, tourism, and sports to Macao. The company has organised or sponsored multiple large-scale sporting events, such as The NBA China Games and “NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week,” demonstrating the company’s commitment to promoting the development of sports and the integration of sports tourism. Sands China often utilises the opportunities presented by these competitions to host auxiliary events like youth clinics and community-focused events, enabling international sports elites to engage further with the community and maximise the events’ positive impact on the city.
