Macau tourism office rolls out youth-focused campaign in South Korea

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will launch a four-day promotional roadshow in Seoul from May 30th to June 2nd, aiming to reinforce Macau’s position as a preferred destination for Korean tourists—particularly millennials and Generation Z planning summer holidays and trips later in 2025.

In a press release, the MGTO stated that South Korea remains Macau’s largest international visitor source market, with robust growth indicators suggesting continued expansion.

According to its 2024 Travel Behavior Survey, 87.8 percent of Korean respondents expressed intentions to visit Macau in 2024–2025, highlighting the market’s strong potential.

As of May 16th, Macau had recorded nearly 235,000 Korean arrivals—representing a 26 percent year-on-year increase. Current figures represent 65 percent of pre-pandemic 2019 levels, with Korean visitors averaging 2.2-night stays in April.

Air connectivity continues to improve, with approximately 35 weekly flights currently operating between Macau and South Korea. This expanded network is expected to support bilateral tourism growth and facilitate broader business development in the sector.

The Seoul roadshow forms part of MGTO’s strategy to sustain momentum in its most significant international market, while adopting experiential marketing approaches to better engage younger travelers.

Themed “My Favorite Macau,” the roadshow will be held at Epic Seoul, located within The Hyundai Seoul shopping complex—Seoul’s largest mall and a popular venue among younger demographics. The location also holds cultural significance as a frequent filming site for Korean dramas and celebrity exhibitions.

In the long term, Macau authorities aim to attract 3 million international visitors annually. In 2024, the city has already welcomed over 2.4 million international arrivals. Even though this represents a 66 percent year-on-year increase, it still accounts for only about 7 percent of the approximately 35 million total visitors Macau received last year.
