Macau’s Tourist Price Index up 4.7% in 1Q24 driven by hotel room rates

Macau’s Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2024 increased by 4.68 percent year-on-year to 144.68, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The higher hotel room rates and dearer prices of clothing and jewelry mainly contributed to the increase in TPI.

The price index of accommodation in Macau grew by 8.35 percent, while the index of Entertainment & Cultural Activities dropped by 15.29 percent.

In comparison with 4Q23, TPI for 1Q24 decreased by 3.85 percent. Price indices of accommodation fell by 11.98 percent, while costs of Entertainment & Cultural Activities also decreased by 15.98 percent.

The average TPI for the last four quarters ending in the first quarter of 2024 rose by 17.57 percent from the previous period.

The price index of accommodation surged by 95.64 percent, and the indices of Entertainment & Cultural Activities increased by 8.09 percent.
