Macau casino operators have received a minimum of 18 proposals from the Macau government through the “referral mechanism” established last year, aimed at aiding local groups in securing funding.

According to a reply to Macau’s lawmakers, the Macau government reveals that out of the 18 proposals, 10 were associated with art and culture. However, the government didn’t provide more details regarding the content of those proposals or the feedback from gaming operators.

In July of last year, Macau authorities introduced a novel system wherein local groups seeking funding for their cultural and sporting projects are directed to the city’s six gaming operators for assessment and potential support.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the gaming operators can analyze and respond to the applications independently.

Some experts heard by AGB believe that a “referral mechanism” could maximize the gaming operators’ business acumen and also elevate the return on investment (ROI) and efficacy of non-gaming projects.

Additionally, from the second half of 2023 onward, the six casino operators have been mandated with the task of revitalizing the city’s relatively rundown districts requiring refurbishment.
