Macau received some 28.23 million visitors in 2023, with a daily average of 77,000 – indicating a recovery of some 70 percent when compared to pre-pandemic 2019.
According to official data from the SAR’s tourism bureau (MGTO), on the last day of the year, Macau welcomed some 175,000 visitors, creating a new post-pandemic record.
Authorities also noted that international arrivals reached over 10,000 for five consecutive days, after the Christmas holiday, foreign visitation on December 30th amounted to 11,258, some 93 percent of that seen in the same period of 2019.
Macau’s government has pushed for more foreign visitation as part of the mandate of gaming operators under their new 10-year licenses (which came into effect January 1st of 2023).
