Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) amounted to MOP17.2 billion ($2.1 billion) in September, reflecting a 15.5 percent increase from the same month of last year.
However, according to data released by the local regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the September total marked a 12.6 percent drop from August.
The result also represents a 21.9 percent decrease from the MOP22 billion ($2.7 billion) reported in September 2019, before the pandemic.
For the first nine months of 2024, Macau’s casino GGR reached MOP169.3 billion ($21 billion), up 31.3 percent from the previous year but still 23.1 percent lower than the same period in 2019, which was MOP220.2 billion ($27.4 billion).
Several analysts and agencies had warned before that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) for September was falling below seasonal trends.
Previously Citigroup projected September GGR to reach MOP17.0 billion ($2.12 billion), or a 14 percent year-on-year growth.
Citigroup suggested that some players may be postponing their trips to Macau until the National Day Golden Week in early October, contributing to a softer-than-expected September performance.
