The eighth China-Myanmar ministerial meeting was held recently, with a focus on strengthening cooperation against transnational crimes and ensuring the safety of Chinese interests in Myanmar, with both nations emphasizing the importance of collaborative security efforts.
As reported by Xinhua, the ministerial meeting took place in Beijing on Monday, co-chaired by Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Myanmar’s Union Minister for Home Affairs Tun Tun Naung.
During the meeting, Wang emphasized China’s commitment to collaboratively implement the key agreements reached by the leaders of both nations. He highlighted the importance of actively pursuing the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, enhancing law enforcement and security cooperation, and strengthening communication within multilateral frameworks.
The focus will be on combating transnational crimes, including telecom fraud and drug trafficking, as well as conducting joint training programs to bolster law enforcement capabilities.
Wang called for cooperative efforts to maintain peace and stability along the China-Myanmar border and to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Myanmar.
Tun Tun Naung acknowledged the positive outcomes of bilateral cooperation since the last ministerial meeting, expressing Myanmar’s gratitude for China’s ongoing support. He affirmed Myanmar’s readiness to implement effective measures to intensify the fight against transnational crimes and safeguard Chinese interests in the country.
