Some 770 individuals have been arrested in Guangdong for involvement in gambling crimes. The figure comes from a special operation by the Public Security Department to crack down on gambling crimes called “Breeze 2024.”

Guangdong is a province located next to Macau, the only Chinese territory that allows gambling.

According to Chinese media outlets, the police cracked more than 470 criminal cases involving gambling. The police have organized key investigations and special inspections for the characteristics of gambling criminal activities, especially in rural areas, targeting mobile casinos, Texas Hold ’em poker, and “Mark Six,” focusing on cracking down on organizers, operators, profit-makers, and behind-the-scenes “protective umbrellas.”

Meanwhile, the authorities have also shared raid details. In mid-January, the Guangdong Police shut down 24 illegal casinos and arrested 544 suspects in a single raid. These casinos are located in at least several different cities within the province.
