Thailand’s Justice Minister Thawee Sodsong has met with the Chinese Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong in Beijing to discuss deeper collaboration, including crackdowns on online gambling.

During the meeting, Wang Xiaohong emphasized the strong relationship between China and Thailand, describing them as good neighbors, friends, relatives, and partners. He also urged a deeper collaboration on drug control, an enhanced mode of cooperation for fugitive handling and asset recovery, joint law enforcement operations, and a crackdown on various crimes, including drug-related offenses, telecommunications and internet fraud, as well as online gambling.

The goal is to bolster practical cooperation in law enforcement and security and contribute to the establishment of a China-Thailand community with a shared future. Minister Thawee Sodsong, who is also a member of the Narcotics Control Board of the Kingdom of Thailand, conveyed his country’s commitment to maintaining close ties with China and fostering deeper collaboration in law enforcement, particularly in the domain of drug control and other related areas.

Thailand and China are two of the largest illegal betting markets in Asia at the moment, according to Martin Purbrick, the Chairman of the Council on anti-illegal betting & related financial crime for the Asian Racing Federation (ARF). In a recent interview with AGBrief, he stated that all of them have “limited or ineffective legal betting markets that cannot compete with the illegal market”.  Closer cooperation between the two regions may see any anti-illegal gambling operations become more effective.
