Authorities in Japan have issued a warning over unauthorized websites falsely claiming connections to MGM Osaka, the country’s first planned integrated resort (IR), amid concerns that users could be redirected to illegal offshore gambling platforms.
Osaka Prefecture and the developers behind the MGM Osaka project released a joint statement clarifying that the future integrated resort does not operate, promote, advertise, or have any affiliation with online casino services. The warning comes after several Japanese-language websites appeared using combinations of terms such as “MGM,” “Osaka,” “Japan,” and “casino” in their domain names, potentially misleading users into believing they are connected to the upcoming IR development.
MGM Osaka, a joint project between Orix Corporation and MGM Resorts International, is expected to open in 2030 and will become Japan’s first integrated resort with casino gaming. According to local reports, the unauthorized websites claim to provide access to online casino games such as slots and baccarat, with some advertising thousands of available titles.
Authorities warned that the platforms appear designed to direct Japanese users toward overseas gambling services. The sites reportedly offer Japanese-language support, accept wagers in JPY and cryptocurrencies, and claim to operate under licenses issued in Curaçao.
Japanese officials reiterated that online casino gambling remains prohibited under the country’s current legal framework, even when services are operated from overseas jurisdictions. Authorities urged residents to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any websites or platforms claiming to be associated with MGM Osaka or Japan’s future integrated resort sector.
The warning comes as Japan continues preparations for the launch of its first IR, with regulators and stakeholders seeking to protect the reputation of the project ahead of its scheduled opening.
