Gross gambling revenue in Macau was up 14 percent from the prior month as visitation volume increased and was down 68 percent from pre-crisis levels in 2019, according to figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

Monthly revenue was MOP8.31 billion ($1.0 billion), that’s up 58 percent from March 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

Despite the improvement, the figures were below analysts’ expectations due to weak VIP hold during the month. A more meaningful improvement is expected once China reinstates the ability to obtain individual visit scheme visas via e-kiosks and when other restrictions are eased.
