Singapore authorities have taken down a major online gambling ring, with 33 individuals arrested for their involvement in an organized criminal group (OCG) that operates illegal online betting sites.

Calling it a “safer option” for gamblers, Singapore’s Ministry of Finance has relaxed rules on online gambling to allow the island’s two incumbent operators – Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club – to offer internet services.

Casino operator Genting Singapore is selling its Korean resort interests in order to focus on its Singapore business and save resources for potential opportunities in Japan.

Singapore tourism receipts grew 12 percent year-on-year to S$11.6 billion ($8.2 billion) in the first half of 2016, according to the latest statistics released by the Singapore Tourism Board.
