Vietnam is pondering the extension of a pilot program to allow locals to gamble in Phu Quoc, with the Ministry of Finance tasked with studying policies that would allow its continuation.
According to reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs will be tasked with coordinating on a framework which would allow a special administrative unit to handle the arrangements, while the Ministry of Finance would deal with the possible pilot program extension.
The former program ended in 2024, with Corona Resort being the only property where locals could gamble in casinos in the nation.

Speculation has been rife about how Vietnam will proceed with its approach towards locals gambling, particularly after the nation approved a $2 billion integrated resort and casino project in Van Don – a region also subject to the pilot project.
