The number of people employed in the hotel industry in Macau increased by 22 percent annually in the third quarter, according to official statistics.
During the quarter, a total of 54,356 people were employed in the sector, indicating an increase of almost 10,000 jobs from the same quarter last year.
Job vacancies in the sector rose from 1,460 to 1,882 people in the quarter, while the turnover rate was 5.8 percent, and the recruitment rate was 12.8 percent.
In September, the average earnings (excluding irregular remuneration) of full-time employees in the hotels showed an increase to MOP19,640 ($2,458), marking a 5.6 percent year-on-year growth.
The majority of those employed in hotels—92.7 percent—work in establishments that employ over 200 people.
The Macau hotel industry experienced a labor shortage earlier this year when tourists rebounded at a very rapid pace. Some of Macau’s hotels had to close thousands of hotel rooms during that time.
