Macau hotels recorded an average room occupancy rate of 89.8 percent in May 2026, up 1.8 percentage points from a year earlier, as stronger international demand helped support the market despite a decline in total hotel guests, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Five-star hotels posted an occupancy rate of 92.8 percent, up 1.1 percentage points year-on-year, while 4-star hotels reached 87.7 percent, an increase of 6.9 percentage points. The rate for 3-star hotels fell 0.6 percentage points to 83.8 percent.
The number of hotel guests dropped 4.5 percent year-on-year to 1,174,000 in May. Guests from mainland China fell 6.2 percent to 847,000, while those from Hong Kong declined 8.6 percent to 148,000.
International guests rose 16.1 percent to 117,000. South Korean guests increased 15.2 percent to 31,000, while visitors from India rose 9.9 percent to 12,000. Guests from Thailand climbed 20.6 percent to 8,000, and those from Malaysia increased 1.6 percent to 7,000. Japanese guests fell 5.7 percent to 8,000.
In the first 5 months of 2026, Macau hotels recorded an average occupancy rate of 91.4 percent, up 2.2 percentage points year-on-year. Hotel guests edged up 0.3 percent to 6,023,000, while international guests rose 14.3 percent to 569,000.
Inbound package tour visitors totaled 141,000 in May, up 2.5 percent year-on-year, with mainland tour visitors rising 6.0 percent to 115,000.
