Macau hosted more than 245 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events in 3Q23, up 231 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the number of participants and attendees surged by 60 percent year-on-year to 545,000.

Regarding the meetings and conferences, there were 221 events held in the third quarter, up by 262 percent. The number of participants soared by 633 percent to 48,000.

The exhibitions in 3Q23 attracted 2,549 exhibitors and 21,000 professional visitors. The majority of the receipts of the exhibitors were generated from sales of goods (90 percent of the total), whereas their expenditure was primarily incurred on rental paid for exhibition booths (58.3 percent of the total) and booth installation & decoration (21.8 percent).

In the first three quarters of 2023, a total of 757 MICE events were held, up by 188 percent year-on-year; the total number of participants and attendees rose by 50 percent to 1,220,000. The two indicators recovered to 70 percent and 96 percent of the levels in the same period of 2019 respectively.

Meetings and conferences surged by 221 percent to 703, with the number of participants soaring by 394 percent to 118,000. The number of exhibitions increased by 8 year-on-year to 44, and the number of attendees (1,092,000) grew by 39 percent.
