Four of the seven satellite casinos that are likely to close by mid-year are linked to the Golden Dragon Group, which is owned by former legislator Chan Meng Kam, Allin media reports.
The casinos have about 200 gaming tables out of the 930 currently operational in the city. Macau has 40 operating casinos, with 18 of those currently considered as satellite casinos, operating under a contract with a concessionaire.
Under amendments to Macau’s gaming law, the actual premises of the satellite casino must be owned by the license holder. They have been given a three-year grade period to reorganize their business.
The amendments pertaining to satellite casinos have raised concerns due to fears on the impact on local employment in Macau.
