Macau reached 19.22 million visitor arrivals in the first six months of 2025, marking a robust 14.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The gaming hub’s tourism recovery continued its upward trajectory, with June 2025 alone recording 2.89 million visitor arrivals, representing a 13.3 percent year-on-year growth.


Chinese mainland visitors drove the surge, accounting for 13.77 million arrivals—a 19.3 percent increase from the previous year. The Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) remains the primary visa arrangement, with 7.41 million mainland visitors using this travel channel, representing a 24.6 percent year-on-year increase. Among mainland visitors, 867,492 travelled under the “one trip per week measure”, 241,257 under the “multiple-entry measure” and 72,149 under the “tourist group multi-entry measure”.
Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area reached 7.02 million, rising 25.7 percent, with Zhuhai leading the charge with a remarkable 57 percent increase. Hong Kong visitors totalled 3.65 million, up 1.1 percent, while Taiwan arrivals grew 14 percent to 461,735.

International visitor numbers also showed strong recovery, totalling 1.34 million arrivals—a 14.8 percent year-on-year increase. South Korean visitors grew by 21.7 percent to 282,151, while Japanese arrivals surged 23.5 percent to 76,435. Southeast Asian markets contributed significantly, with Philippine visitors increasing 16.8 percent to 273,715 and Indonesian arrivals rising 13.8 percent to 104,608. Visitors from the USA grew 9.9 percent to 76,457.
Land border crossings dominated visitor entry points, accounting for 82.1 percent of total arrivals at 15.78 million visitors—up 20.4 percent year-on-year. The Border Gate checkpoint and Hengqin port saw increases of 25.5 percent and 40.6 percent respectively. However, sea and air arrivals declined by 5.2 percent and 4.1 percent respectively.
