The Macau government has plans to construct an outdoor concert venue with a capacity to accommodate 50,000 attendees, located at the Cotai Strip.
On Tuesday, Macau’s Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong, revealed that Macau intends to locate the venue near the integrated resorts in the Cotai area.
According to reports, Macau authorities hope to hold the first concerts at the venue in the first quarter of 2025, as the government is currently still evaluating some potential options.
The outdoor concert venue might be of a temporary nature, and the initiative stems from a controversial concert held in January this year. The Korean boys band Seventeen’s concert, held at Taipa Olympic Sports Centre, generated a mount of complaints from citizens, as the venue is located in close proximity to housing.
At that time, the Macau government pledged to study the possibility of organizing concerts in locations that are either close to or far from residential areas.
Macau gaming operators have added many performing venues in recent years, mainly inside integrated resorts, mostly indoors. The Cotai Arena inside the Venetian has a maximum capacity of 15,000 seats, while Galaxy opened its Galaxy Arena last year with 16,000 seats.
Besides those two big arenas, Macau gaming operators also have some smaller theaters such as The Londoner Theatre, The Parisian Theater, Broadway Macau Theatre, and The Studio City Event Center, among others.
