Macau’s Mario Ho says that eSports is going to propel a new wave of entrepreneurs in the space, as it ventures into mainland China.
Speaking to Macau Business, the son of gaming mogul Angela Leong, Mario Ho noted that “I think there absolutely could be a future for e-sports hotels in Macau as well”.
The move falls in line with China’s increasing openness to gamers, with gaming-oriented hotels opening up across the country to sate the demand.
Ho operates his eSports operation via the NIP Group, and also acts as the chairman for the Macau e-Sports Federation.
“The birth of e-sport hotel essentially is because the young people have grown tired of the previous form of entertainment, which was going to internet cafes,” indicates the executive.
“Lots of older hotels have transformed parts of their hotels into e-sport rooms […] I think that may be a first start for Macau hotels that may be looking to transform as well,” stated Ho.
