Macau chief executive Ho Iat Seng said that the government is considering extending an incentive scheme to tourists from Southeast Asia in order to boost tourist consumption, provided the covid-19 situation improves globally.

Currently, Macau offers an incentive scheme for mainland Chinese tourists to enjoy promotional offers while visiting Macau. Ho said that consumption vouchers issued to tourists under the scheme had generated a leverage ratio of 21.82 times, indicating tourist spending in Macao was growing.

During the Q&A, the Macau chief executive also noted that the government is still closely following the rollout of digital currencies globally. He said that the government remains in communication with the Bank of China about issuing such a currency in Macau.
