Five of Macau’s gaming operators are no longer pursuing compensation from junket group Suncity over alleged funds due given alleged illicit gaming activity, according to a report.

According to TDM Canal Macau, the five operators are not appealing a court ruling which absolved the former head of Suncity, Alvin Chau, and others involved in the process, of swindling both the government and operators out of percentages of funds illegally bet in their properties.

The total amount of compensation the five operators were seeking totaled over MOP2 billion ($250 million): MOP770 million ($96 million) for Wynn Macau, MOP559 million ($70 million) for Galaxy Entertainment Group, MOP340 million ($42.5 million) for MGM China, MOP295 million ($36.8 million) for Venetian Macau, and MOP178 million ($22.2 million) for SJM Resorts.

Melco had not presented a request for compensation over Suncity’s alleged illicit gains.

The five operators, notes the broadcaster, have chosen not to appeal the court’s decision with the Court of Final Appeal.

Alvin Chau formerly operated Macau’s largest junket, Suncity Group, and was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the group’s illegal activities early this year.
