The Macau government on Wednesday announced that its mutual extradition agreement with South Korea has come into force, which will allow one country to extradite a fugitive from the other for local prosecution.
First signed in October 2019, the agreements allow for both parties to request any person wanted for prosecution for an offence punishable for a period of at least one year or more, and when at least six months of the sentence have yet to be carried out.
South Korea Consul General in Hong Kong previously stated that this agreement was not intended to target gambling infractions under Korean law, which forbids gambling at a casino with the exception of Kangwon Land.
