A judge from Macau’s intermediate court dismissed Alvin Chau’s attempt to challenge the admissibility of evidence presented by the prosecution.
According to the document, in the former junket boss’ trial, the court upheld three pieces of evidence as valid.
The founder of Suncity group questions the inclusion of additional documents in evidence against him after charges were filed.
Among three pieces of evidence, Alvin Chau accused prosecutors of including excerpts from a taped phone call from a separate case in which he was not involved.
The same document disclosed that the court ordered Chau this April to provide a guarantee of no less than HK$6.5 billion ($831 million) and also imposed a preventive seizure on his property in London.
Chau also appealed against it, asking for its annulment. However, the judge was not dealt with in this judgment and will be left to the prosecution.
He was sentenced to 18 years in jail this January after he was found guilty of 162 charges, including enabling and operating illegal gaming.
