MGM co-hosts training initiative for Responsible Gaming Ambassadors

MGM China, the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), and the Macao Leisure Industry Employees Home (Employees Home) jointly organized the second edition of the “Industry-Wide Responsible Gaming Ambassador Certificate Training Program” earlier, drawing 100 participants.

The training featured expert instructors including Yang Hongmian, Assistant Professor from the Faculty of Health and Wellness of City University of Macau; Lao Mei I, Director of Sheng Kung Hui’s 24-hour Gambling Counseling Hotline and Online Support Service; and Pak Kin Pong, Director of the Integrated Service Centre at Employees Home.

Aiming to equip participants with advanced RG knowledge and skills, this program covered Macau’s Responsible Gaming policies, gambling psychology, symptoms of gambling disorder, available support services, and more.

Tina Wong, Director of Responsible Gaming at MGM, emphasized MGM’s longstanding commitment to RG. The Company continues to collaborate with various sectors to promote “healthy financial management and rational entertainment,” supporting the industry’s lawful, healthy, and orderly development. Following the success of last year’s inaugural program, this year’s edition offers even more diverse and enriched content, intending to further raise public awareness and enhance cross-industry capacity for RG advocacy.

Leong Sun Iok, President of Employees Home, said that since the late 19th century, gaming tax revenue has played a pivotal role in Macau’s public finances. The industry has grown alongside generations of local residents, becoming part of the city’s social fabric. While the widespread presence of gaming activities in residential areas may increase the risk of gambling disorder among students, long-term collaboration among responsible gaming stakeholders has enabled systematic education across all sectors. As a result, Macau’s gambling participation rate in 2022 was just 30.1%, with a disorder prevalence of only 0.45%—figures that were considered low by international standards.

Promoting responsible gaming (RG) is one of Macau’s key strategies to enhance understanding of responsible gaming and to address gambling disorder.

MGM China remains committed to deepening collaboration with community partners and expanding cross-sector efforts to reinforce responsible gaming education. By joining forces with more industrial partners, the Company aims to strengthen public awareness of gambling-related risks—for the sake of building a healthier Macau.
