Air Macau on Wednesday launched new flights to Kuala Lumpur. The region’s flag carrier will operate four flights a week between Macau and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. During the launch ceremony ahead of the maiden flight, Air Macau General Manager Zhu Paibo said the airline was accelerating the opening of international routes in line with government policies.
The launch of the new flights coincides with the implementation of the mutual visa-free policy between China and Malaysia and will likely help Macau International Airport to achieve its forecasted 10 to 15 percent increase in passenger volume compared to last year. The figure was revealed by the marketing director of MIA, Fong Hio Kin, during the ceremony inaugurating a Macau-Kuala Lumpur flight.
“Although the aviation industry has not fully recovered, and there seems to be a manpower shortage in surrounding regions, such as in the field of ground services,” said Fong. “The airport will, however, allocate resources to support the development of airlines.”
The airport recently reported that 2023 passenger volume stood at 54 percent of pre-pandemic levels and had steadily increased to nearly 5.2 million last year.
