Macau’s tourism industry is forecasting a strong summer season with visitor arrivals expected to increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Hotel and Tourism Industry Association.
The peak period is anticipated in August, with summer hotel occupancy rates averaging around 85 percent and reaching up to 90 percent during peak times.

Cheung Kin Chung, president of the Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association
Cheung Kin Chung, president of Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association, told public broadcaster TDM that the first half of 2025 has shown positive recovery momentum in the tourism market, with continued growth expected in the second half of the year. The optimistic outlook comes as visitor arrivals to Macau continue climbing and hotel supply and demand remain in good balance.
The positive projections build on Macau’s strong tourism performance this year. The territory surpassed 20 million tourist arrivals in 2025, achieving the milestone 26 days earlier than in 2024, thanks in part to new visa policies from mainland China that allow for more flexible entry. According to the Public Security Police Force, Macau welcomed over 20 million visitors as of 11 am on July 8th, with an average of 106,000 daily arrivals.
Mainland Chinese tourists accounted for the largest share at 71.6 percent, followed by visitors from Hong Kong at 19.1 percent, Taiwan at 2.4 percent, and other international markets at 6.9 percent.
Official statistics show that hotel room occupancy rates in the first five months of this year increased by five percentage points year-on-year to 89.2 percent. However, the number of guests decreased by 2.1 percent to 6 million, while the average length of stay remained at 1.7 nights.
Cheung acknowledged that external economic conditions, changing tourist consumption patterns, and intensified competition from neighboring regions present greater challenges for Macau. The industry must continue strengthening internal capabilities while expanding customer sources, he said.
For the summer season, the industry will focus on developing family-friendly and educational tourism products that offer deeper cultural experiences. The second half of the year will prioritize optimizing tourism product offerings, strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing “tourism plus” integrated development, improving tourism infrastructure, and conducting targeted international market expansion.
