At least 72 licensed casinos in Cambodia ceased operations during a year-long crackdown on online scams, according to a government report obtained by the Cambodia China Times.
Authorities investigated 195 licensed casinos between July 2025 and June 30th, 2026.
Nineteen had their licenses revoked over alleged involvement in online scams, while another 30 had their licenses suspended. A further 23 stopped operating after their licenses expired.
The report said authorities investigated 665 locations linked to online scams, comprising 582 sites allegedly used for criminal activities and 83 suspected hideouts. Of the total, 537 locations were sealed.
Authorities referred 268 cybercrime cases involving 2,773 suspects to the courts, with 2,200 people placed in pre-trial detention. Cambodia also deported 21,100 foreign nationals from 38 countries during the period.
The government is preparing inspections and assessments of casinos nationwide, with the findings expected to be used when deciding whether to renew or revoke operating licenses.
Casino operators have been instructed to strengthen oversight of their operations, access controls and video surveillance. Authorities have warned that licenses will be revoked if casinos are found to be involved in online scams or other criminal activities.
