Victoria goes into fifth lockdown

The state of Victoria will go into a five-day lockdown starting today, marking the fifth time Victorians have been directed to stay at home bar any essential reasons.

The lockdown applies to both regional and metropolitan Melbourne, with all non-essential businesses closed during the period.

Crown Resorts, which operates its flagship Crown Melbourne complex confirmed to the Australian Stock Exchange that it will be temporarily ceasing its gaming activities, food and beverage, retail, banqueting and conference facilities with the exception of takeaway meals or meal delivery services. Hotel accommodation will continue to be provided for approved purposes.

It is understood that the new cases in Victoria have been caused by the NSW Covid-19 outbreak.

Earlier this week, NSW extended its lockdown of Greater Sydney to July 30th.

The Star Entertainment Group confirmed its operations at The Star Sydney will remain closed until the date, apart from limited hotel and takeaway food, and that it will continue paying staff through the extended lockdown period.

In more positive news, the group said that it has eased operating restrictions at The Star Queensland properties from today, Friday July 16, 2021. Patronage capacity will be increased to 3 people per 4 square meters and masks are no longer necessary. Patrons will no longer have to be seated while eating or drinking.
