Tech tools maximizing sports betting growth across Asia, and improving operators’ margins: Sportradar

Legalization, regulation and AI. These three foundations are shaping up to make Asia the most interesting region for sports betting in the near future. More countries are setting up frameworks to drive punters to the regulated market, while technology boosts regulatory oversight as well as creating newer and better betting offers.

Sportradar’s Managing Director (APAC) Oscar Brodkin explores this confluence and how its tech offerings are recalibrating the odds.

NBA, Sports betting

Live betting dominates

While not exclusive to Asia, live betting has become the most sought-after and exciting wagering style recently and the region has a “massive consumer demand for dynamic, in-play wagering,” notes Brodkin.

Oscar Brodkin, Sportradar
Oscar Brodkin

Currently, live betting “can account for over 90 percent of the volume in some sports such as cricket,” he notes, highlighting how a previous “traditional, manual approach” is obsolete for punters now and Sportaradar’s clients are moving away from “generic, “static” liability limits and ‘vanilla’ odds”.

In the world of live betting, data is key, and traditional methods “simply cannot handle that velocity and breadth”, he indicates – referring to the different sport preferences in each APAC region – “cricket in the subcontinent, basketball in the Philippines, baseball in East Asia and football everywhere”.

To accompany the fact that “the playbook for Asian operators is being completely rewritten,” Brodkin highlights how Sportradar’s Managed Trading Services (MTS) is utilizing both AI and Business Intelligence (BI) to “process billions of tickets”, boosting operators’ efficiency, protecting margins and keeping their “trading as sharp as possible’.

In 2025 alone, Sportradar processed “over 10 billion tickets globally”, with a “fair amount” from APAC.

One key regional partner already using MTS is the Taiwan Sports Lottery, which has a 10-year contract with Sportradar signed in 2023, with the service spread across both online and retail channels.

Brodkin notes that this type of partnership is what Sportradar is looking for, given that it can “showcase our technology with operators who can utilize our full-tech stack”.

Odds calculation

Sportradar, Managed Trading Services, MTS

While punters may seek to defy the odds, operators keen on staying in business need to make sure that odds calculation is firmly based on reliable data. But as technology further evolves, so do the ways that operators can have personalized offers.

Sportradar has again integrated AI into this process via Alpha Odds. Brodkin notes that this product “moved us from providing a general live odds price to a unique, personalized price for each bookmaker based on their specific customer base and risk profile”.

The pitch is that the service increases profitability and competitiveness for operators, with Brodkin citing an 8 percent average monthly profit uplift, 9 percent increase in trading efficiency (being closer to expected outcomes), as well as “enhanced mitigated risk using Liability Driven Calculations and a Customer Confidence Factor”.

Risk management

Sportradar, MTS, Managed Trading Services, MTS, Risk Management

But even with the best data available, match-fixing “remains a constant threat”, even though it “occurs in less than half a percent of all matches”. But the threat looms, meaning that “trust is fundamental. If punters cannot trust the integrity of the content, they will not engage”.

To ensure trust and accurate odds calculations, Sportradar also uses its AI-powered Universal Fraud Detection System. The team behind it “continuously monitors global betting markets” using UFDS AI, as well as “direct intelligence from global betting operators via the Sportradar Integrity Exchange (SIE).

Suspicious matches are flagged, MTS is automatically notified and “appropriate actions are immediately taken”- events or markets are suspended or liability limits are reduced.

Furthermore, information on suspicious matches is shared with the sports tech company’s partners, “enabling investigations that often result in sporting sanctions and, in some cases, criminal penalties”.

What’s exciting and fresh?

Punters are always looking for new and diverse ways to place their bets, and operators now are empowered to suggest how play can be channeled.

Custom Bet allows personalized bet building for over 200 markets across six sports, supporting odds “from any provider” and giving players “tailored bet recommendations”.

“We are able to push a certain market to a customer as soon as they log in because we know they like that particular market. This combination of engaging content and personalized betting options is how we maximize player value and boost wagering activity throughout the customer lifecycle.”

These can be coupled with match visualization tools – like the NBA Virtualized 3D Live Match Tracker, a “game changer”, and live streaming of matches – a “key retention tool” which “increases live stakes as punters want to see the content”.

Sportradar live match tracker

For now, Sportradar sees “a large faction of Asian operators using pirated streams,” but notes that rightsholders are also on the case given that their “properties’ values diminish over time” from the piracy.

Aiming to keep its content fresh, Sportradar is constantly fighting to remain at the forefront, seeing exciting opportunities in Asia in markets like Sri Lanka. But long-standing relationships with “global entities like the NBA, ATP, and CONMEBOL (governing body of football in South America) are critical. They guarantee the accurate, sub-second data that is the lifeblood of our MTS, especially in a live-betting-dominant region like Asia,” notes Brodkin.

And the tech company is not one to rest on its laurels, acquiring IMG Arena in 2025, adding “key properties such as Wimbledon, Roland-Garros, US Open, Major League Soccer, Football Australia, UFC and PGA TOUR, all relevant to – and demanded by – punters in Asia,” notes Brodkin.

But more is definitely in store, with Sportradar aiming for the top by making sure that it can provide the whole sports betting package.

“The ability to offer a seamless, personalized experience across all sports is where the true long-term value lies.”

PhilWeb appoints gaming lawyer Tonet Quiogue as independent director amid board overhaul

0

Philippine gaming technology firm PhilWeb Corp. has appointed lawyer Marie Antonette “Tonet” B. Quiogue as an independent director as part of a broader board reshuffle following a management-led takeover of the company.

PhilWeb, PIGO, Philippines

In a disclosure dated March 6th, PhilWeb said its board accepted the resignations of directors Edgar N. Ang, Mario A. Oreta, William M. Valtos Jr., and Philip S. Tuazon. The changes were made in connection with obligations under a share purchase agreement involving Gregorio Araneta Inc., Nexora Holdings Inc., and Velora Holdings Inc.

Quiogue joins the board alongside newly elected director Tsu Chuan Tseng and independent directors Daniel Tirona Francisco and Anthony Ferdinand C. Yu. The appointments took effect on March 5th and also resulted in the reconstitution of the company’s corporate governance and audit committees.

Quiogue, a legal adviser in the gaming sector, is the founder and chief executive officer of Arden Consult, a firm specializing in legal, regulatory, and strategic advisory services for gaming and digital industries. She holds a Master of Laws degree from Columbia Law School, an MBA from De La Salle University, and a Juris Doctorate from Far Eastern University Institute of Law, where she graduated as valedictorian.

The board changes follow a management-led takeover of PhilWeb earlier this year. The ownership shift saw Nexora Holdings Inc., together with co-investor Velora Holdings Inc., acquire a 57.78 percent stake in the company from Gregorio Araneta Inc., making businessman Crisanto Roy B. Alcid the new beneficial owner of PhilWeb.

The transaction triggered a mandatory tender offer for up to 449.16 million public shares, representing about 31.28 percent of the company’s outstanding stock, priced at PHP2.17 ($0.037) per share. However, no shares were tendered during the offer period from January 19th to February 16th, 2026.

The lack of participation came as PhilWeb’s stock had surged more than 760 percent over the previous 12 months and was trading far above the tender offer price, according to InsiderPH.

PhilWeb has recently expanded its digital gaming footprint through platform partnerships, including integrating its technology into FBM Philippines’ electronic gaming venues and supporting operations such as Hann Online, the digital gaming arm of Hann Casino Resort in Pampanga.

3 Oaks Gaming turns up the volume with DJ Tiger x1000

3 Oaks Gaming has released DJ Tiger x1000, a vibrant scatter pays slot featuring cascading mechanics and multipliers worth up to x1000.

Set beneath club lights and spinning disco balls, this immersive 6×5 slot brings every spin to life with rhythmic, high-energy gameplay. The Cascading Reels mechanic provides the potential to trigger multiple wins within a single spin should eight or more of the same symbol land, which is further boosted when the Permanent Wild makes an appearance and stays on the reels until the cascade ends.

Disco Ball Bonus symbols take centre stage, awarding multipliers of up to x1000 either on their own or launched by DJ Tiger. When multiple Multipliers land in a single spin, their values combine to increase the final payout. Mystery Multipliers ranging from x10 to x1000 can also appear, revealing their values once the full cascade concludes.

Free Spins raise the tempo further, with every Multiplier from a winning spin contributing to a Total Multiplier that builds throughout the feature.

Players can also visit the Bonus Shop, which offers three types of Free Spins, including Mega Free Spins where enhanced Multipliers from x25 to x1000 can be unlocked. Three vibrant Spin Boosters are also available, giving players the option to further enhance gameplay at a higher per‑spin bet cost.

Wazdan expands slot lineup with Fisherman’s Luck

Wazdan, the gain‑focused developer, has expanded its slot lineup with Fisherman’s Luck, a deep‑blue, feature-rich release powered by new Gainer symbols that stay active for up to 10 spins, collect Cash and Jackpot values, and amplify them through 2x–10x Multipliers for heightened win potential.

Adding an extra dynamic to base play, new Cash Out symbols land exclusively on the top row alongside Gainer icons. If triggered, players are granted three respins, where any Cash or Jackpot symbols that appear below it lock in place and reset the respin counter to three.

During the feature, if Cash or Jackpot symbols fill all three positions beneath the Cash Out symbol, a prize equal to their combined total is awarded.

Turning attention to the Bonus Game, 10 free spins are delivered, with Gainer symbols remaining locked in place throughout. Gain Boosters can extend their lifespan, while the Gain to Infinity feature keeps them active for the entirety of the round, maximising accumulation opportunities and sustaining player engagement.

Fortunate players who draw the Grand Jackpot symbol below an active Gainer symbol will benefit from a 2500x win, while Wazdan’s popular Chance Level™ feature also returns, allowing players to improve their chances of reaching the bonus round.

Bloomberry registers $44.74M loss in FY25, amongst VIP and premium downturn

Philippines casino operator Bloomberry Resorts Corporation’s 2025 results were severely weighed down by softer tourism and offshore gaming operator ban, significantly affecting VIP and premium mass play, driving it to a PHP2.64 billion ($44.74 million) loss.

According to results released on Friday, total gross gaming revenue (GGR) was down 3.1 percent yearly, to PHP59.79 billion ($1.01 billion), driving net revenues down by 1.1 percent yearly to PHP52.51billion ($889.97 million) and EBITDA down by 38.7 percent yearly to PHP7.08 billion ($120 million).

The group registered a FY25 loss of PHP2.64 billion ($44.74 million) in 2025, compared to a profit of PHP2.58 billion ($43.73 million) in 2024. The group highlights certain ‘notable one-off items’ that impacted net income: a PHP706.3 million ($11.97 million) gross receipts tax (GRT) charge relating to a PHP72 billion ($1.22 billion) loan in 4Q25, a separate PHP175 million ($2.97 million) GRT, a positive PHP2.9 billion ($49.15 million) ‘one-time, non-cash refinancing gain linked to a PHP40 Billion ($677.94 million) loan in 1Q25, and a PHP383.3 million ($6.5 million) impairment of investments in Aviation Concepts Technical Services Inc.

Enrique Razon, Bloomberry Resorts, Philippines
Bloomberry Resorts Chairman and CEO Enrique Razon Jr.

Speaking of the results, Bloomberry Chairman and CEO Enrique Razon Jr. noted that “2025 was a challenging year, marked by softer inbound tourism and the residual effects of the July 2024 POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator) ban, which weighed on revenues across VIP and premium mass. Regulatory uncertainty in the online space also tempered the rollout of our newest digital platform.”

Cash operating expenses for Bloomberry increased by 16 percent yearly to PHP42.3 billion ($716.92 million), due to the full-year impact of Solaire Resort North’s operations and costs incurred from the group’s broad-mass online gaming platform MegaFUnalo – launched mid-2025.

4Q results particularly shallow

Results for the fourth quarter were particularly grim, with the company registering a PHP2.8 billion loss ($47.46 million), a significant increase from a 4Q24 loss of PHP920 million ($15.59 million).

This came amongst a 12.8 drop in GGR, to PHP14.11 billion ($239.14 million), a 12 percent contraction in net revenues to PHP12.81 billion ($217.11 million) and a 66.5 percent drop in EBITDA, to PHP1.33 billion ($22.54 million).

Solaire Resort & Casino, Bloomberry Resorts, Philippines

Solaire Resort Entertainment City (SEC) continued to weigh down results, with total GGR down by 26 percent yearly in 4Q25, to PHP9.33 billion ($158.13 million), amongst a 67 percent contraction in VIP GGR – to PHP1.19 billion ($20.17 million), as VIP rolling chip fell 50 percent to PHP51.1 billion ($866.07 million), with a win rate of just 2.33 percent.

Mass table drop at SEC fell by 12 percent, to PHP8.12 billion ($139.15 million), pulling down mass tables GGR by 9 percent to PHP3.89 billion ($65.93 million), despite an improved hold of 48 percent. Electronic gaming machine revenue was also down, by 9 percent yearly to PHP4.24 ($71.86 million), with EGM Coin-in down 10 percent to PHP72.7 billion ($1.23 billion) and a hold rate of 5.8 percent. The group saw hotel occupancy improve by 5.3 percent during the quarter, to 72.9 percent.

Solaire Resort North, Bloomberry Resorts

Results from Solaire Resort North helped offset the downturns at SEC, with total GGR up by 33 percent yearly to PHP4.77 billion ($80.84 million), boosted by a 54 percent increase in slots GGR, which rose to PHP2.74 billion ($46.44 million) on the back of a 6.5 percent hold and Coin-in of PHP42.87 billion ($762.59 million), up 35 percent yearly.

Mass tables contributed PHP1.77 billion ($30 million) in GGR during the quarter, up by 15 percent compared to 4Q24, boosted by an 8.3 percent increase in the hold rate, to 33 percent, and amongst a 4 percent fall in mass tables drop to PHP5.35 billion ($90.67 million).

VIP rolling chip was up at Solaire Resort North, by 13 percent to PHP4.66 billion ($78.98 million), but the VIP win rate fell by 1.01 percent to 5.58 percent, driving down VIP GGR by 4.4 percent to PHP260 million ($4.41 million).

Hotel occupancy at the property improved significantly year-on-year, up by 19.6 percent to 76 percent.

Non-gaming revenues for the group improved slightly in 4Q25, rising by 1.7 percent yearly to nearly PHP2.06 billion ($34.91 million), with a slight uptick from Solaire Resort North and a downturn at SEC.

Looking head

Bloomberry’s Chairman notes that expense management and enhancements to both Solaire properties have been implemented in response to the softer revenues seen in 2025, with debt refinancing in October of 2024 and February 2025 contributing to cost savings on its loans.

“We anticipate further gains from these initiatives in 2026,” noted the executive.

Bloomberry ignites Philippines online gambling rivalry with MegaFUNalo

The group’s bet on the online world is also expected to bear fruit this year, with Razon Jr. noting “in the online segment, we remain confident in the long-term opportunity as we await greater regulatory clarity and continue strengthening the competitiveness and user experience of our digital platforms”.

Playson at Slotegrator: insights into sustainable growth in iGaming

Slotegrator recently welcomed Maryna Tkachenko, Account Manager at Playson, who shared exclusive perspectives on sustainable growth, evolving player behavior, retention strategies, and the sector’s future direction.

As a leading B2B service provider in iGaming, Slotegrator stays at the forefront of technological, regulatory, and market developments. This commitment is reflected in its APIgrator portfolio, which continues to expand with new gaming content developers and reinforces the importance of long‑term, trustworthy partnerships.

Olga Ivanchik, the COO of Slotegrator

Since its founding in 2012, Playson has gained an excellent reputation. Today, their games are featured on over 10,000 websites worldwide. Throughout the interview, Tkachenko highlighted that the cornerstones of business success are consistent new releases, data-driven decisions, market expansion, and long-term partnerships.

A key takeaway from the conversation is the balance between new technologies and well-known ideas. For instance, multi-level bonuses, mission-style gameplay, and progression mechanics are becoming increasingly prevalent in a highly competitive market. However, new features like Playson’s Flexible Promo Free Spins reflect market changes and the need for smarter personalization; retention still largely depends on conventional promotional tools such as races, tournaments, random cash gifts, and other bonuses.

The interview also delved into the topic of how emerging technologies are transforming the industry. Maryna shared her vision of AI and blockchain in the iGaming industry, covered what new and classic promo tools remain popular, and explained that success does not rely on technology alone.

Maryna Tkachenko, Account Manager at Playson

Going forward, Playson plans to expand its portfolio, and achieving steady growth in the ever‑evolving iGaming landscape will require balancing traditional engagement tools with ongoing innovation.
