Wynn, Marjan break ground on Janu resort beside UAE casino project

Wynn Resorts and joint venture partner Marjan broke ground on Monday, July 27th, on Janu Al Marjan Island, a luxury hotel and residential development next to the $5.1 billion Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Janu Al Marjan Island is scheduled to open in early 2029, according to official LinkedIn announcements published by Wynn Al Marjan Island and Marjan on the same day.

The project is the second joint venture between Wynn Resorts and Marjan on Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah. It will bring Janu, Aman Group’s contemporary hospitality brand, to the emirate.

The waterfront development will comprise a luxury hotel, branded residences, wellness facilities and social experiences. Senior representatives from Marjan, Wynn Al Marjan Island and Aman Group attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

TradeArabia News Service reported that SCDA Architects designed the development. It cited Marjan Group chief executive Abdulla Al Abdouli as saying the project formed part of the company’s plan to diversify Al Marjan Island’s hospitality portfolio and support Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism economy.

Max Tappeiner, president of Wynn Al Marjan Island, said Janu would complement the integrated resort under construction next door.

“Janu is an exciting addition to Al Marjan Island and a natural complement to what we’re creating at Wynn Al Marjan Island,” Tappeiner said in comments carried by TradeArabia.

“As neighboring developments, we expect a natural connection between our guests and residents that will create meaningful benefits for both properties.”

When the project was first announced in November 2025, Wynn Resorts said it would include a 132-room hotel, a wellness center, two restaurants, a nightlife venue, a private beach and a beach club.

A neighboring residential tower will offer one- to five-bedroom units and a limited collection of standalone villas. Aman Group will manage and operate the development.

The early-2029 opening schedule compares with the late-2028 target provided when the project was announced.

Wynn Al Marjan Island is scheduled to open in 2027 and will house the UAE’s first licensed commercial casino. Wynn Resorts holds a 40 percent equity interest in the integrated resort and will operate the property.
