Thai authorities bust illegal casino operating on two floors of hotel

Authorities in Thailand have busted an illegal casino operation which covered two floors of a hotel in Nonthaburi province.

According to the Bangkok Post, the casino operated on the eight and ninth floors of the IWish hotel, with the floors being leased and only accessible by keycard.

The raid on the facility was conducted by immigration and local police.

Authorities detained some 26 Chinese gamblers and 23 Thai workers.

They seized six baccarat tables, six slot machines, THB3.5 million in cash and casino chips with denominated values totaling tens of millions of baht.

Some 49 detainees were indicated by the local station chief, including nationals from Singapore, Laos, Myanmar and Canada. Authorities indicate some of the foreigners were casino staff.
