SkyCity implements mandatory carded play system across New Zealand casinos

New Zealand and Australian gaming operator SkyCity has launched its mandatory Carded Play system across all its New Zealand casino properties, requiring customers to use a new SHOW by SkyCity card that verifies identity and provides enhanced gaming safeguards.

The rollout, which began in Queenstown and Hamilton earlier this month, was completed in Auckland on Tuesday, according to a press release from the company’s website on Wednesday.

Under the new system, every player must obtain a SHOW by SkyCity card for all machine and table gaming activities. Customers can continue using cash, QUICK Pay or Tito tickets when playing, but must present legal photo identification to register for the card either online or at any New Zealand SkyCity casino location.

“Carded Play gives us the tools to better support our customers. We can make earlier interventions where needed, and ensure gaming remains a safe and enjoyable experience,” said Chief Operating Officer Callum Mallett.

The card system enables SkyCity to monitor gameplay patterns and implement safer gaming measures, including prompted and mandatory breaks with session, daily and weekly limits across all gaming products. Players can also track their own gaming duration through the system.

SkyCity first announced in February this year that it would roll out mandatory carded play across its New Zealand properties in July, with plans to introduce the system at SkyCity Adelaide in 2026. The SHOW by SkyCity card also provides customers access to the operator’s refreshed loyalty programme.
