China’s Ministry of Public Security announced on Wednesday that over 800 Chinese nationals implicated in online gambling and telecom fraud have been repatriated from Myanmar.
In a press release, the ministry stated that the repatriation was the outcome of year-long collaborative efforts among Chinese, Thai, and Myanmar law enforcement agencies aimed at combating cross-border telecom fraud and online gambling.
According to the official news agency Xinhua, the ministry has declared its intention to enhance international law enforcement collaboration and maintain a relentless crackdown on such transnational offenses.
In an ongoing effort to combat gambling-related crimes, China, Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos launched a specialized joint operation last August aimed at tackling gambling, fraud, human trafficking, kidnapping, and illegal detention.
Additionally, earlier this year, Myanmar police handed over six alleged key figures in a cyber scam fraud group and four other major crime suspects to Chinese public security authorities.
