Macau gaming regulator appoints new Deputy Director

Macau’s gaming watchdog, the DICJ, has appointed a new deputy director, with Chui Hou Ian being sworn into office on Wednesday by the DICJ’s director, Adriano Marques Ho. 

According to an announcement published in Macau’s Official Gazette, Chui has been appointed for a 24-month term.

Chui has a Bachelor’s degree in Gambling Management and Master’s degree in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The new deputy director had previously worked in the private sector, but in 2020 and 2021 was appointed as the representative of the Macau Government in Lottery Company Wing Hing. Since 2020, Chui has worked for the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance as an adviser.

Chui also was involved in the Macau Chief Executive election in 2019, being a member in the department of communications of current CE Ho Iat Seng.

During the swearing-in ceremony, The DICJ’s director said that Chui is specialized in gaming management and that he is confident Chui can carry out his duties required in the DICJ role.

Ho added that Macau’s gaming industry has entered a new era, after the attribution of the new gaming concessions on January 1st, but cautioned that local authorities will “strengthen their supervision of the gaming sector in accordance with the provisions of the new gaming law”.
