The Macau Public Security Police expects the number of visitors and border crossings to reach 2019 levels or exceed them by 3 percent, totaling 6 million border crossings during the Chinese New Year break.

Macau authorities indicate that the tourist influx will be intense from the 9th to the 18th of February. During this ten-day period, Macau police project that border crossings will range between 5.5 million to 6 million, translating to nearly 550,000 to 600,000 border crossings daily.

The Public Security Police spokesman also notes that tourist volume will peak on the 12th. Under these circumstances, the Macau government is planning crowd control measures, likely to be implemented in the city center areas, such as the Ruins of St. Paul.

Earlier last week, the Macau Tourism Office expects 120,000 visitors daily during the CNY holiday. This figure represents a 70 percent recovery compared to the 2019 CNY level when Macau received over 1.21 million tourists during the seven-day CNY period.

Meanwhile, the industry insider, deputy chairman of Ponte 16 operator Success Universe projects that Macau’s February daily gross gaming revenue (GGR) could record a post-COVID high, surpassing the highest daily GGR recorded last October.

Hoffman Ma reveals that up to 90 percent of rooms in Ponte 16 have been booked for the upcoming CNY and the hotel room rates during the CNY Golden Week (February 10th-17th) this year are about MOP2,000 ($246) to more than MOP3,000 ($369) per night, which is still lower than that of 2019.
