Macau has begun the shuttering process of its satellite casinos, with Casino Grandview, operated under the licence of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM), ceasing operations on July 30th.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Macau’s gaming regulator, stated in a press release that the shutdown was coordinated through close interdepartmental collaboration to ensure legal compliance and an orderly process.
The closure of the Taipa-based casino was pre-announced as part of SJM’s broader strategic restructuring of its satellite casino operations. In June, SJM announced it would end operations at seven of its nine satellite casinos by the end of 2025, retaining only Ponte 16 and L’Arc Macau under direct management. However, the closure of Casino Grandview took place ahead of the year-end deadline.
Immediately following the formal closure, the DICJ initiated the suspension of gaming tables and coordinated with various public departments to oversee the withdrawal from the premises. The regulator worked alongside multiple government agencies to ensure the shutdown adhered to established protocols.
During the process, the Labour Affairs Bureau deployed staff on-site to provide information to workers and offer support through an open helpline. Meanwhile, the Public Security Police Force and Judiciary Police were present to maintain public order at the venue and surrounding areas, ensuring the closure proceeded smoothly and according to plan.
Players holding unredeemed chips, deposits, or rebates from Grandview can redeem them at Casino Casa Real starting July 31st. SJM confirmed that all customer entitlements will be honored.
The DICJ added that it will continue to enhance its regulatory mechanisms to support the standardization and healthy, orderly development of the gaming sector, while creating favorable conditions for Macau’s broader economic diversification. The regulator also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining oversight during the ongoing transition period as operators restructure their satellite casino portfolios.
