Laos’ Bokeo province, which is known for having casinos catering to Chinese tourists, appears to be the center of the country’s covid-19 outbreak, with 38 out of 47 new country-wide cases coming from the area.

The new cases bring the national covid number to 1,751 confirmed cases.

Authorities have blamed the rise in cases of illegal border crossings from Thailand.

The country has now extended its lockdown for another 15 days until June 4.
