Delta variant case ends HK’s 16-day Covid-free streak

A case of the Delta variant of Covid has ended Hong Kong’s 16-day streak of no local infections, resulting in 180 people being quarantined in the Tai Po area where the man lives.

The authorities have screened 2,100 people and found no further cases.

According to officials the plan won’t affect Hong Kong’s plans to reduce quarantine for inbound travellers. However, it’s unclear what it will mean for talks with Macau, which has said Hong Kong must have at least 28 days with zero local infection before travel can resume.
