Esports Entertainment appoints Mohegan veteran Robert Soper to its board

NASDAQ-listed iGaming company Esports Entertainment Group has announced the appointment of resort and gaming veteran Robert Soper to its Board of Directors.

According to a company announcement, Soper currently holds the role CEO of Sun Gaming and Hospitality group, a consultancy that he founded.

Soper was also the President and CEO of US-based tribal gaming group Mohegan Sun between 2015 and 2017, later serving as Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment’s International President between March of 2021 and June of 2022. During that time, Soper guided the company to get its integrated resort license in South Korea, as well as overseeing financing for the project.

Soper also serves on the Board of Directors of Playgon Games and as Chairman of the Hospitality Board of Nobody Studios.

Speaking of the appointment, Esports Entertainment’s CEO, Alex Igelman, noted that “He brings an impressive track record and deep relationships across the industry that I believe will add tremendous value to our Company as we execute on our strategic turnaround. His willingness to join our board illustrates his confidence in the Company’s ongoing transformation, as well as our significant potential within the iGaming and esports sectors.”
